Bookmaking using Sewing Techniques- Western Codex & Japanese Stab Binding
Thursdays, 10:00-12:00, Feb 6- March 27 Have you ever wanted to know how to make your own journals, sketchbooks or scrapbooks? Students will learn two different bookbinding techniques during this 6 week class. We will explore both Western Codex Bookbinding and Japanese Stab Binding. Each student will complete a book using each technique. The ability to make custom books offers many advantages and handmade books make wonderful gifts! Artists Bio: Amber Paris is a Putney-based visual artist and creative community engagement facilitator. She has taught bookmaking across Southern Vermont for the past 12 years. Print-making
Tuesdays, 10:00-12:00, Feb 4-March 25 In this class we will explore a variety of printmaking techniques. Participants will create handmade stencils for use on paper, canvas and fabric. They will carve linoleum for block printing plates and will learn how to make mono-prints using gel plates. We will use an array of found objects to make multi-layered prints. We will print on paper and also on fabric (such as clothing, pillows and prayer flags!) If time allows, these fabric prints can be embellished with embroidery. Students will keep their lino and gel printing plates for use once the class has ended. My hope is that we can mount a show at the end of this class. tps://www.marlborocommunity.center/art-exhibits Artist Bio: Annie Quest has been a jewelry maker, painter, theater director, stage and lighting designer, and musician for many decades.
