Gallery Show: Jessica Riley Bigaj

Jessica Riley Bigaj is a watercolor landscape artist whose work reflects a deep connection to the natural world, particularly the Monadnock region of New Hampshire, southern Vermont, where she now lives, and the Maine coast, where she frequently visits.

Growing up in the Monadnock region, Bigaj developed an appreciation for the forests, hills, and waterways that continue to inspire her paintings. After living in several states across the country, she returned to Nelson and Keene, New Hampshire, to raise her children. She now resides in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Through her watercolors, Bigaj seeks to capture more than the visual appearance of a landscape. Her paintings evoke the atmosphere and sensory experience of a particular place and moment—the quality of the air, the sounds, and even the scents of the natural world. Embracing the fluidity and spontaneity of watercolor, she moves beyond detailed realism to convey the feeling and memory of being immersed in a landscape.
